READING HAROLD PINTER

Sydney AA member Karen Bayly performs in Reading Harold Pinter, one of seven short plays with a gay/multicultural theme in Sydney’s Mardi Gras Colour Blind Project.

Written by Gerry Greenland and directed by Travis Green,  Reading Harold Pinter opens Wednesday 23 February and runs through until Friday March 4.  It plays nightly @ 8pm (Sundays @ 5pm) at the Sidetrack Theatre in Marrickville (Phone 02 9550 3666). UNDERBELLY FILES – MONDAY FEBRUARY 21ST

Melbourne AA members Georgia Bolton and Aaron Jakubenko feature in the final of the three 2011 Underbelly Files telemovies on Monday February 21st at 8.30pm on Channel Nine.

In The Man Who Got Away, directed by Cherie Nowlan (“Thank God He Met Lizzie”, “Clubland”), Georgia plays Prison Guard Raelene Wandmaker, and Aaron plays Cop #1. Hope you can all tune in!

CANARY

Sydney based AA members Peter McAllum and Matthew Hyde are currently treading the boards at the New Theatre in Newton in the play Canary. Pete (below, left, with Caleb Alloway) plays a number of roles (including UK anti-smut campaigner Mary Whitehouse!) in this powerful piece that is being performed as part of Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Written by acclaimed UK playwright Jonathan Harvey, Canary is a love story spanning five decades … a fantastical journey across the landscape of modern gay history.

It plays at The New Theatre until March 5th, Wed to Sat @ 8pm, Sun @ 5pm (Sat 5 March @ 2pm – no evening show this date)

MRS VINCENT PRICE

At Melbourne’s La Mama Courthouse Theatre, from February 10 – 27, you can catch AA Member Michael F Cahill in Peter Quilter’s new play Mrs Vincent Price.

Directed by Alice Bishop, the play is a celebration of the life and career of actress Coral Browne who left the Melbourne suburb of Footscray in 1934, became a grande dame of the London stage and fell in love with actor Vincent Price. CONGRATULATIONS!

In the second week of February, Sydney AA member Ali Aitken performed a monlogue called The Voyeurs at the Short + Sweet Festival.

Her performance was placed 2nd in the Judges Choice.

And another play in which she appeared, Three In One, took out 1st Place in the Peoples Choice category.

UNDERBELLY FILES: TELL THEM LUCIFER WAS HERE

The Nine Network kicks off the 2011 Australian television ratings year with its season of three new Underbelly Files telemovies with Tell Them Lucifer Was Here, the tragic story of the 1998 murders of Victoria Police officers Rod Miller and Gary Silk … and the incredible four year investigation by the Lormier Task Force to bring the murderers to justice.

Premiering on Channel Nine on Monday February 7th at 8.30pm (with an encore screening on GEM on Sunday February 13th at 8.30pm), it stars AA member Jeremy Kewley as Det Snr Sgt Graeme Collins (above), and features other Actors Australia members including Gina Morley and Hadrian Jonathan.

KITCHEN WHIZ

Actors Australia member Andy Minh Trieu (“Tomorrow When the War Began”, “Sisters of War”, “Rescue Special Ops”) co-hosts a brand new kids game show with a focus on the world of food, cooking and food science.

Shot at Sydney’s Fox Studios, the new afternoon television series sees contestants aged between 12-14 years old compete in messy tasks, earning points and taking home prizes.

Andy and Beau Walker (from the popluar Channel Nine kids series The Shak ) will co-host one-hundred and thirty episodes of Kitchen Whiz for Ambience Entertainment and the Nine Network.

It premieres across Australia on Channel Nine at 4pm Monday February 21st.

I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S NOT COUNTDOWN

Fresh from the national tour of “Mamma Mia”, AA member Chris Buchanan is again strutting the stage, this time at The Palms at Crown in Melbourne, performing opposite Michael Veitch, Richard Macionis and Jon Peck in the latest staging of the ever popular Countdown musical comedy.

Chris gets to belt out songs as Shirley Strahan from Skyhooks and many others. It’s only on until then end of February, so get your skates on!

SYDNEY SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

Opening on January 6 with A Midsummer Night’s Dream and then Romeo and Juliet on Saturday January 8th, the Festival runs for eight weeks.
